Summertime Bridal Shows ~ How to Work a Show!

Summertime is here and in between vacations, family reunions, weekend cookouts, there are tons of Bridal Shows for Bride-to-Be's to venture out on the weekend. So this task may be daunting or may be fun for others, but there is an art to tackling the Bridal Show. How to work a show you may ask? Well here are 5 tips of how to strategize and make the most of your time at these types of events.

1. Make Labels!
There are sometimes close to a hundred different wedding vendors ready to grab your information, add you to their rolodex, and give you terrific information with hopes of you contracting them for your wedding day. Do you really want to leave after 3 hours of walking through a huge facility with Carpel Tunnel syndrome in your right arm from writing your name and address all day? Of course not! Take some pre printed labels with your Name, Address, Phone Number, Email Address and Wedding Date. It's so much easier to peel and stick. 5 seconds and you're done!

2. Bring a friend!
There's nothing more special than taking a bestie with you to a Bridal Show. Whether she be your mom, sister, BFF, or cousin, it helps to be able to bounce ideas off someone, or get a second opinion about a vendor that you may be considering. They may see something that you didn't see or hear something that you tuned out.

3. Bring 2 Bags!
One for your definite callbacks and one for your everything else. There is so much information and freebies to get at Bridal Shows that it becomes overwhelming. What will happen is that everything will start to run together and you will forget who said what and where they were. If you can separate while you are there, it will keep things in perspective for you later.

4. No Pressure!
Don't feel pressured into signing contracts at the table the day of the Show. Treat it as a First Date. First Impressions count. I tend to shy away from overly pushy vendors.

5. Dress Appropriately!
Just as you are trying to see if these vendors are a good fit for your wedding day, they are assessing you as well. Make sure you dress appropriately to conduct business. It may be casual, but it is still a first impression - MAKE IT COUNT!

The Not-So Traditional Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day, or so affectionately called by men, “The Woman’s Holiday”, is right around the corner and every year men get antsy as to what to buy, how to surprise, or how to distinguish this year’s special day from last year, and of course top themselves in the process.

Ladies, how about let’s spin the tables a bit in 2011 and do something extra special and spicy for your beau, to show him how much he is appreciated. There are many things that we can do for our Valentine, that can tickle the fancy of a man.
While we love being showered with gifts of chocolate covered strawberries, dining in the city’s hot spots by candlelight, or even romantic dinners at home, we all know these can be a tad cliché for our men. For most men, the key to their heart is food…..and sports! Why not surprise him with tickets to your local NBA team ‘s home game, if not on Valentine’s day, close to it? After the game, what’s wrong with hoping to an open bar and have some drinks? It doesn’t have to be an early night, let your hair down and have a great time and I’m sure he will appreciate the fact that you thought about him on this “Couple’s Day.”

Now of course, this can be two-fold, because you may hate basketball and your idea of a fun time might not be downing Henn and Coke like you’re one of the guys, so the something spicy can be a Couple’s day at the spa for His and Her massages the next day. Life gets us all a little tense, so there is nothing wrong with a little winding down to take the stress of life off and just enjoy each other’s company in the process.

Whatever you do this Valentine’s Day, make it extra special for your extra special love!

I witnessed a beautiful Catholic wedding ceremony today of one of my dearest friends, Sonya Scott and her new hubby Roman Doss. This was a pure example of true love and how two people can know each other for a lifetime and God bring them together later in life and it is absolutely stunning!

The wedding was gorgeous, the bride was beautiful and the ambiance was great!

Grand Atrium at 200 Peachtree

Native Atlantans are familiar with the old Macy's building downtown. Marble floors and columns. Oversized chandeliers. Open white space. Absolutely marvelous. The building had been closed for awhile, until this past June when it has reopened under new management as an Event Facility. Check out some of the photos below to see the absolutely breath taking creative space that the new owners have re-opened to the public in Atlanta.

I truly believe that this will be a premier space in Atlanta in the upcoming months.

Ventanas ~ An Event Space

The ENVI team was fortunate enough to share in an ISES-Atlanta fundraising event back in May. This event was held at a nice location called Ventanas (windows in Spanish) and boy is it a gorgeous space! We are going to highlight a number of event spaces across the city that may be well known or hidden gems, but are some that we love to frequent!

This week's highlight is Ventanas!

Ventanas is a rooftop event space that overlooks Centennial Olympic Park. It is full of picture windows and has a breathtaking view. Can you imagine attending an event here as the sun is setting??? To die for!

Planning a Surprise Party......in less than 72 hours!

The ENVI team has been busy at work and we have not been blogging as much as our readers have liked, however....we're back!

We recently planned a surprise dinner birthday party and here's the catch.....we pulled it off perfectly in less than 72 hours!

We are here to share the secrets, some do's and don'ts so if you have a surprise party you want to plan you can do it stress-free, with ease, and enjoy yourself in the process!

The daughter of the special guest contacted our office for expertise in planning this type of shindig in a short amount of time....3 days to be exact!

Well, how do you do that?

1. Book it!
The venue that is. When searching for your venue for a party, you first have to have an idea of how many guests you are expecting. In a short time frame of 3 days, you would like to keep it to a minimum, it's easier to manage that way. Not only do you keep the guest list to a minimum, but search for a place that has all amenities included so that you have less to worry about. For this event we had a guest list of 15 people and our venue was Kiku at Camp Creek, a Japanese Steak House.

2. Spread it!
The word that is. Now it's time to let your guests know about the plans and share all the details. After you have gathered phone numbers and email addresses of all invitees and quickly start dialing and / or sending evites out to let them know about the plans. Don't forget to let them know the time of arrival for guests and the time of arrival of the special guest. The worst thing would be for your guests to arrive at the same time of the honoree!!! Not only do you have to inform your guests of the plans, but you have to stress that it is a SURPRISE and designate someone to get the guest of honor there.

3. Theme it!
Depending on the vibe you are going for with the party, you may want to have a theme. For this party, we didn't have a theme per se, but we did keep a certain color scheme of pink, orange, and gold. Also the dessert plates were the same color scheme with a damask print. It was absolutely gorgeous.
4. Wrap it!
Wrap up the details and get ready to have fun! Final details include ordering the cake, providing ideas for gifts to the guests, and taking care of any loose ends. Make sure that you are there as the party host early enough to greet the guests, especially in the case of using a restaurant. Sometimes restaurants have you in a special party room and other times, especially on busy nights, as in the case with Kiku you will be seated once the entire party gets there. Stress the importance of timeliness and you will be set to go!

The party at Kiku was a great success. The honoree was thrilled, super surprised, and had a wonderful time with her family and friends.

Just a quick post:

I happened to be walking through the National Building Museum on yesterday as they were preparing for the U.S. Congressional of Mayors Gala. Everytime I walk through the Museum there is something going on. The setup was gorgeous and of course when I want to take a picture the battery in my camera is dead completely, so I snapped it with my camera phone.

Are Client Appreciation Events Necessary?

In the world of corporate event planning, there are some planners who strictly specialize in a certain niche area: Trade Shows, Conferences, Meeting Planning, or Corporate Social Events. There are others who are the jack of all trades and have their hands in a little bit of everything. In today's economy, everyone falls under the consumer umbrella in some capacity or another. To thrive, build referrals (especially in a referral based business), and to continue to show your clients that you appreciate all that they do (spend their hard-earned money with you instead of with the competition), it is necessary to let them know!

Well, how would you do such a thing?

Many companies are trying to cut costs in every arena to make sure their profits continue to stay at the same level or get higher. So here are a couple of low-budget ways to show your clients you love them and have them continuously choosing you over the competition.

1. Summer picnic or barbecue.
2. Holiday parties held either in your home or at a local restaurant or hall.
3. Golf outings.
4. Theater parties.
5. Sporting events such as baseball, basketball, and football games.
6. Afternoon or evening cruises on local rivers and lakes.
7. Fishing tournaments.
8. Movie nights at local theaters. A variation: In summer, rent out part of a local park or meadow, rent a screen and projector and invite customers to movies under the stars.
9. Ice skating and roller skating parties. If you’re near an indoor ice rink, stage the ice skating party in summer.
10. Circus parties.
11. A day at the zoo.
12. Croquet or badminton tournaments in local parks.
13. Ice cream social.
14. Apple-picking parties.
15. Excursions to museums and botanical gardens where you provide transportation, admission, and lunch.
16. Cooking demonstration at a local restaurant.
17. Wine tasting.
18. Block party.
19. Nature walk, followed by a picnic.
20. Retro dance party with a local band. Have an instructor show people how to dance.
21. Talent show-karaoke night.
22. Treasure hunt.

Also, there are always direct mail campaigns that keep your customers thinking about you! Just shoot them over a little note to say that you were thinking about them.

How to Throw a Holiday Bash without Breaking the Bank

As the holiday season approaches, songs, food, and good cheer are our primary source of enjoyment during this time. Some people, who have annual Holiday gatherings with friends, family, and co-workers, are feeling the crunch in today’s economic times. They are tasked with how to continue the tradition of throwing a Holiday Bash, without breaking the bank. In just a few short steps, we’re going to outline how to create the greatest shindig, without emptying your pockets to do so.

1. Decrease your Guest List
We have been known to throw the best party in the city for the last 10 years. However, this year, our finances just aren’t allowing us to have 100 guests at our home to entertain and feed them all. The first way to cut back is to decrease the number of invitees. It may be hard, but sometimes you have to just include those who are closest to you to share in this special occasion. It will be a more intimate setting and allow everyone to mix and mingle with each other.

2. Simplify your Menu

Instead of having a full course dinner to serve to your guests, try picking a few passed hors’devoures and a dessert selection. I am a fan of signature drinks, so try working with your fave bartender and create one just for your holiday party. This will save on the amount of alcohol you have to buy as well as the other additives that make mixed drinks so very appetizing! Make sure you have some juice and sodas for your non-alcoholic guests.

3. Illuminate!
I absolutely love decorating! It’s something that is a bit therapeutic for me. However, it can become costly to decorate your home or event space to create the ambiance you are looking for. One of my favorite cheating tips is to illuminate! Dim the overhead lights and increase the number of candles you have. Votives in the window seals, votives as your centerpieces on a mirrored glass, it creates a space that looks expensive to make, but really costs little to nothing.

4. Utilize Electronic Invitations!
The last point is to save a few dollars on your invitations by utilizing an electronic invitation system. Whether you decide to create a document in Microsoft Word, PDF it and email it to your list and wait for the email responses, or use an automated invitation system like Evite, which can real-time your guest list as well as let you know who has received, opened, and/or responded to your request. Either way it saves money on printing and postage.

Use these four handy tips to create the holiday bash that you and your guests will enjoy, without breaking the bank to do so.

Going against the Grain ~ Non Traditional Seasonal Decor

This is my favorite season of the year. The Fall foliage, leaves changing colors, the weather is so nice (well sometimes). I absolutely love it! Aside from that, there are a few ideas that I have seen that can add to the interiors with the theme of the season. Using colors such as burnt oranges, cranberry, chocolate, gold....it just does something to warm the space up. However, there are instances where the traditional color palatte just isn't what our client wants, then we have to put our creative hats and drink our creativity juice to come up with something that will not only be simple to find the items we're looking for, but will add a spark and twinkle in the eye.

Seaside Vacations: End of Summer Outdoor Dinner Party

As the summer quickly comes to a close, we can reminisce on the vacations we took, the great food we ate, and the friends we spent countless hours with. Beach vacations are usually a call for some great seaside cuisine. As Labor Day approaches in the next 6 days, this weekend is an excuse to bring back some of those memories for a last hoorah and host a smashing good time in your backyard with some of your closest buds for a Summer Outdoor Dinner Party.

There are few essentials that come to play when organizing a smashing good party.

Food & Beverage

and last but certainly NOT least....

BUDGET!

VENUE: For the purposes of today's post and the reason for the season (**yes one of my faves is the holidays and holiday entertaining is the absolute BEST....only a few months left**), we will set the venue for the festivities to be held in the quaint backyard, deck, or patio of your home. Setting the scene, its a fairly large space to hold comfortably about 40-50 guests for your dinner party, complete with high boy tables, rounds for comfortable seating and a dance floor too!

ENTERTAINMENT: The entertainment for the evening, would be a nice mixture of contemporary music. From various genres so that everyone in attendance is comfortable. Since this is going to be an adult affair, lots of mixing and mingling of acquaintances will happen so there is no need for anything too formal for this casual gathering of friends coming together for a end of the summer shabang! **Hint....a live band wouldn't set well in this casual affair**

DECOR: I absolutely love piecing together arrangements for parties. For this fun and festive occasion, you would definately need lighting to get through the rest of the night. So some hanging lights, maybe some chinese lanterns hanging from the trees and white lights lining the fence. On the tables, I'm a lover of round tables, but have white/aqua linens with some small votives illuminating the space as well sitting atop glass chargers. In the votive centerpiece, since we are remembering our Seaside Vacation, include some sand or blue marbles to resemble the water aspect of the beach.

GUEST LIST: Wrapping up the summer festivities, including your closest friends and some work acquaintances it should be a great time! A simple evite is the easiest way to communicate your upcoming event and also be able to keep tabs on the RSVP's....a must in party planning.

FOOD & BEVERAGE: Time to eat! Having an array of finger foods, kabobs, and anything else that will just give your guests a little bit to eat, mix and mingle....cocktail style. You don't have to have anything heavy, it is a party you know! To drink....I'm all about the siggy drinks. Since this is a seaside vacation remembrance dinner party, incorporate a tropical paradise alcoholic or you can make it non-alcoholic as well. It's your party, engage your guests as much as possible and make it fun. Of course, have some other non alcoholic options for your guests who are non drinkers.

Last Point......BUDGET (but it really comes in first before ANY planning can begin). Your budget is your single handed most important piece of the puzzle. For any event, big or small, you have to know the funds your are working with to make it come together. When you have your total number, then you can find out which direction you are going to go for the pieces and which is most important in your party to WOW your guests.

After you put all these pieces together, don't forget to thank your guests for coming at the end of your smashing good party!

What does the High End, Quality Bride look like?

This question is one that poses many event planners and vendors in the Wedding Industry to raise a brow and ponder...what does SHE look like? The bride, the contract that we all wish to acquire. The bride whose budget is upwards $60K, whose father and other contributors to the funds of producing this lavish affair say "Money is no object", the bride who after all is said and done is happy because her Princess Fairytale Wedding with Glass Cinderalla Slippers and all has come to an end and she and her prince charming threw the event of the century....THAT bride is who us as event planners dream of being able to sit across the table in our corner office and WIN that contract.

However, when you are so focus and consumed with catering to that bride, how many other brides who may not have those 6 figure budgets, but want to pay you for your services and expertise are you bypassing just to get that 1 contract???

Well, the ECA team is focused on not on producing Upscale Social and Corporate Events, but we are focused on producing these events with all types of clients in mind. From the $5K budgets to the $500K budgets, we are equipped with the resources and the knowledge to cater to all needs, tastes, and preferences.

Today's post is going to hopefully assist some other vendors, planners, brides, MOB's, and readers of our blog with some helpful business savvy etiquette ~ don't rule out potentials waiting on that ONE big bank contract. You could easily build up lots of clientele with smaller budgets while you continue to sit and ponder on the $100K bride.

Now, this high-end, quality bride....what does she look like? Is she blonde, brunette, or a red head? Does she have a specific profession or is she just a daddy's girl who was born into wealth? Is she a Bridezilla or is she cool calm collected? Cummerbunds and Tails???

Recently I was posed with a question over what is acceptable attire for a specific social event. I was sitting with the Best Man of an upcoming wedding and was looking at the tux that was chosen for the groomsmen. To my surprise, it was a tux with tails....

I immediately asked him, well what time is the wedding scheduled for? He wasn't sure, so we headed to the wedding website of the couple and found out that it is scheduled for 2 pm. Do we continue to focus on the social stigma of semi-formal, after five, formal, white / black tie....OR for our events and the accompanying attire matter simply on what we like and want?

If we are focusing on what is 'correct' attire for the occasion, then tails on a tux at 2pm in the summertime would be ALL WRONG! For a daytime wedding, even though a wedding is a formal event and you should ALWAYS be in Sunday's best, you would be ok in wearing a tailored suit, light or dark colored, and the tails, cummerbund, bow tie isn't necessary.

However, there are daytime formal weddings, which would incorporate tails or other formal dress such as long bridesmaid dresses and a formal wedding gown.

For guests, what would you wear or what is acceptable attire to such an occasion? In order to determine the formality of the wedding or special event, the first place to start is to consider the invitation. If the invitation is on heavy card stock, with calligraphy, then you can expect at least a semi-formal affair. If you are receiving an invitation via Evite, then it screams casual.

Whatever you do, make sure that you research the formality and are prepared for the occasion. If you have questions about do's and dont's for attire you can reference this site.

What is a Resource Cafe?

I was watching one of my favorite shows this morning, Get Married on Lifetime and one of the features was something that I thought was pretty neat, and wierd enough one of my ideas for ENVI expansion. There is this venue called the Wedding Cafe New York which is a space where brides and vendors can come together and plan the wedding from start to finish. These resource cafes are special because for vendors that don't have a store front or don't have space to house their centerpieces and designs on a daily basis, develop partnerships with premier wedding vendors and allow brides and the other essential parties in their planning process to come and meet the vendors at that location. Snazzy huh? I think so myself!

This is also a great resource to be able to have all your vendors meet a once, it cuts down on vendor meetings, traveling from one end of the city to the other, as well as making sure that every party involved in the process is on one accord. Simply amazing! I absolutely LOVE it!

So, for my DIY brides, here is a budget friendly alternative which will also save you some time and money from running around town all day! Granted, the vendors that are at these resource cafes are the best of the best and could be a bit on the higher priced end, the security of knowing that you will be WELL taken care of is priceless for a flawless wedding day.

LUXE for LESS: Crystal Tree Centerpieces

Since the Real Housewives of Orange County season a few years back, the crystal tree craze has become a new staple in weddings and creating a focal point for dynamic decor. Crystal trees are pretty expensive items to have someone else make just based off the time it takes to make, BUT it is something that you can spend your own time to make and make it a fun project for you and your hubby - to - be, therefore are other ways that are more budget friendly for brides to have and still allow them to be glamourous ideas for the bride.

For some reason, I have really started to love the antique look of Damask fabrics and accents. It is definately something that can spice up a wedding, add a bit of 'pop' to the decor and overall chic to the event.

On your wedding day, it is sooo important to make sure that you are looking your absolute best. Some brides are just so ravishing on that day, from the hair, to the glow of their makeup, to the dress....all the way down to their toes! It's just beautiful. All brides are just absolutely gorgeous. It's just something about wedding days.

As much as I love weddings, it takes a lot for a bride to get to the point where they feel comfortable in that dress. Why is it that most brides, not all, but most, get into a physical crunch and have to find the need to hit the nearest Bally's or LA Fitness 4 times a week to get into that gorgeous Vera Wang or Christian Dior gown? However, they never stepped foot or cared to before? Well, some keep up with their personal training regimine while others realize that their soon to be hubby loved them the way they were and will continue to on that day of nuptials.

Atlanta's Hidden Treasure - Cascade Mansion & Gardens

While browsing around on the net, searching for photos of The Cascade Club to see different layouts of the venue to share with my clients. Well, while I put Cascade in the search browser, I stumbled upon a neat mansion and gardens called The Cascade Mansion and Gardens, which is nestled in one of Atlanta's most historic urban neighborhoods - Cascade Heights.

Now, the interesting thing is that I have lived in this area my entire life and honestly, have never paid attention to this place.

This is probably another one of Atlanta's hidden venue treasures on the Southwest side of Atlanta.

Picture Perfect: When the event is over....you still have the photos!

A major detail for some and a minor addition for others is the photography for any event. Personally, your photography and videography services are some of the most important factors that need to be properly addressed and budgeted for when planning an event - social or corporate. Why? Well for one, when the event is over, the hosts and/or hostesses, will want to have memories of the special event's completion. Second, on a corporate level, the event photos will be published in the company newsletter and correspondence to other business partners and employees who were either in attendance or frequently patronize the company. Lastly, to be shared with those vendors and service providers who were instrumental in making that event a success.

Well, since choosing a photographer is important, what are some of the steps necessary in choosing a good photographer?

Thank you for asking! The best way to chooise a good photographer for your event is to ask for referrals! Word of mouth advertising what we business owners call it, is the best advertising! It is from family, friends, co-workers, previous clients. When you are planning your event, ask someone who just had an event for who their vendors were and how their service was.

Not only can you ask for referrals from friends and family, but you can also contact an event planner like ENVI Consulting & Associates, who offers a service called vendor referral. Through this some planners for a nominal fee and others for free will provide you with a resource list of the photographers who they have used in the past and stand behind quality work.

Second, you can look through vendor websites for photographers, browse the internet, and call some of the ones whose portfolio looks the best to you. Always, always, always ask for their portfolio and what type of events they specialize in and what their rates are.

*Tip* If you are on a budget, you can contact art design and photography schools for students who are interested in freelance opportunities.

I have a few photographers who I have worked with in the past. However, one photographer's work is just simply amazing! His name is Jerrold Mobley with PixElegant Photography. He uses photojournalism techniques to portray the full effect of the event. He is based in Atlanta but works almost everywhere.

How to plan a Swanky and Chic Election Day Viewing Party

On today, November 4, 2008 we are embarking upon the greatest election in United States History. We will either have the First African American Man voted President of the United States or we will have the first Woman as Vice President of the United States. Either way, it is monumental. People across the country are gathering around in homes, lounges, workplaces, and in the comfort of their own beds to watch tonight's results. The ENVI team is very excited with tonight's outcome and would like to share with our readers how to plan a swanky and chic election day viewing party! It doesn't take much, just a few friends who are interested and excited about the results!

To have any party, you need to have food, drink, people, and some sort of entertainment. We are going to cover each topic quickly so that we can continue to run and finish the preparations for our own party tonight.

First, people. As with any event, you need to narrow down your guest list. If you are having an affair at your home, then you want to keep your guest list down to a number of people who you can host comfortably. Anywhere from 6-8 is perfect! You don't have to plan weeks in advance. This is something that you can throw together quickly. You can call your closest friends and let them know, but to add a twist, send out an Evite.

Second, plan your menu! Since this is something that you are creating last minute, you don't have to serve a gourmet menu. Passed hors Deavures and martinis are just enough. We chose to go the simplistic route. Chips and various types of dip - Cheese, Spinach, Ranch. Veggie Trays, and a Dessert selection. Cinnamon Rolls, Chocolate Chip Cookies, and of course Pound Cake!

Not to mention, we made Red, White, and Blue Martinis. Flavored Blue Raspberry, Pina Colada, and Cranberry. Tres Chic!

Finally, as for the Entertainment. That's easy! All you need is a TV with Election Day coverage. Some good friends for discussion and there you have it! Gather around CNN tonight to get all the Election Day coverage.

Engagement parties are now becoming a more prevalent occasion for contemporary couples. As we are embarking upon the Fall wedding season, there will be more and more soirees with the benefit of celebrating your upcoming nuptials.

The first, is starting with the Engagement Party. While I consult tons of clients on how to relax during their engagement period, allowing Envi to coordinate their events, and have the time of their life, there are some parties that couples enjoy planning together for their friends, their friend and family throw for them in celebration.

As with anything, there are always trends. Engagement Parties are not a new fad, they are actually an old concept that are becoming more prevalent, as with clothing styles. The original concept of engagement parties were that they were thrown in honor of the couple to announce their engagement. It was usually thrown by the bride's parents either as a dinner party, cocktail reception, or something for close friends and immediate family to offer congratulations. Fast-forward to now, since weddings on average take about a year to plan, engagement parties are becoming a more formal way to immediately congratulate the couple on their new found journey together.

As with any party, you will determine your budget, your guest list for your invitations, venue, decor, food and drink, and nice parting gifts thanking your guests for attending. All of these components set the tone of your event. You can also determine the formality that you would like your affair to be, depending upon the personalities of the couple. Some may want an intimate, at home dinner, with close friends and family that could be impromptu, where you can play games such as Who knows the couple? , or other couples may want something more formal, such as a cocktail reception, exquisite decor, and mix and mingling, toasts for well-wishes and lots of music, dancing, and fun.

Keeping in line with etiquette, whoever is invited to your engagment party, must also be invited to the wedding. Typically, the engagement party will be hosted shortly after the proposal, anywhere from 1 to 3 months after. However, if you are having a relatively short engagement (meaning 6 months or less), then an engagement party is not necessary or appropriate. Also, an engagement party is simply an event that congratulates the couple, not one that is seen as a gift-bearing affair. Guests will want to provide a little token, but registry information is not appropriate for this affair.

Whatever your personality, Engagement Soirees are fun to plan and even more fun to attend. Remember, that this event is in honor of the couple, so happy planning!

DIY: Table Decor and Centerpieces

We love, and I mean absolutely love, sharing easy, do-it-yourself tricks of the trade to save money! Money saving, budget crunching, and making sure it is also drop dead luxurious is the name of the game. Not only luxury, but Luxe...for less!

Today, the team at Envi has decided to talk about Do-It-Yourself Table Decor and Centerpieces and how to have the Luxe for Less wedding on a budget!

A major addition to the wedding, is the decor! It can be as minimal or as extravagant as you wish. Lots of flowers, candles, bows, chair covers, and more. The decor gives the tone and sets the mood of the rest of your event.

Flowers can be a costly expense, especially using fresh arrangements of ornate and different types of flowers. Not to mention if you want specific hues, sizes, or out of season florals. Your costs can get higher and higher.

We did a wedding a few weeks back, and we had planning time of about two months. With a budget of $5000 for about 60 guests, live flowers would have eaten up the budget. However, we found an already made, faux floral arrangement that was a semi-tall centerpiece. Ivory hydrangeas, limes, roses, and other types of flowers. This arrangement on the total of 8 tables could have easily cost over $100 per arrangement. However, we were able to buy the pre-made arrangement for $25 at Target. They fit in the color scheme of the wedding and helped save lots of money. Instead of paying close at least $800 for arrangements, we were able to get them all for $200....saving 75% for our bride to allocate $600 to other avenues.

Rock the Reception....Trendsetting in First Dance

The First Dance is a staple in couple's wedding reception. After the entrance of the wedding party, the bride and groom enter and before anything else takes place they grace the floor and their guests with the first dance as husband and wife. Well, before the most important task was picking the song that all your guests would remember you dancing to. A song with significance of your journey to now this wondrous time as husband and wife. Now, in addition to picking a great song, couples are doing the unthinkable. Meeting with dynamic choreographers to make their first dance one that is memorable. Not a boring and drab two step, but a live and fully choreographed medley of moves that resembles an episode of Dancing with The Stars.

Your First Dance as husband and wife should be memorable and emotionally touching. Historically, the First Dance is symbolic of the consummation of the wedding vows. This Dance is the wedding couples' first cooperative engagement and joint endeavor. The newlyweds are placed on the road of life together to fulfill their dreams and aspirations, more importantly, to complete each other as a human being. When the Bride accepts her dance with the Groom, she accepts it for the rest of her life. The frame and posture of the Groom when he proposes the dance to the Bride, speak of the source of strength, love, companionship, and guidance he offers his Bride. It is no wonder that the tradition of the First Dance has continued through history as one of the most important facets of the Wedding Day.

Now, that society has changed, younger couples and some older ones too, are jumping into the idea of not only having a choreographed dance for the bride and groom, but also incorporating their entire wedding party into this new found dance activity.

Pomp and Circumstance....Planning the Perfect Graduation Party

As summer time approaches, we acknowledge the usual dates of Easter, Mother's Day, Memorial Day, and Father's Day, another special occasion during the Spring and Summer Seasons is Graduations! The culmination of one's tenure in their educational endeavors is one that family and friends love to celebrate and send their congratulatory wishes. Of course with special occasion celebration, Envi Consulting & Associates loves to talk about the party!

First things first....who do you invite? For graduation parties, whether it is from Pre-K, High School, or College, there are influential people to the family as well as friends of the graduate who are necessary to be on the guest list.

Then, determine whether this will be a catered event, do-it-yourself buffet, or just a cake and punch affair. Depending on the caliber of the event, will determine how dramatic you wish for the catering to be.

Some ideas for a Do It Yourself Buffet could include: Wings, Meatballs, Cheese and Cracker Trays, Punch/Frappee (you know the punch with a bit of sherbet and ginger ale for the fizz ::smile::), Fruit, and Cake.

Now when you get to the full catered event, you can decide whether you are gearing toward an outdoor type event or upscale indoor event at an art gallery perhaps.

You have the guest list, the food, the venue if not at home, and now you just need the entertainment! That's simple....its a party! Hire a great DJ that is well-versed in various types of music who can feel out the crowd depending on the age differences and make the party go all night long!

Don't forget you need to have a space honoring the graduate. Maybe a table or the mantle above the fireplace. This should include pictures, certificates, awards, trophees, and other honors that the graduate has received throughout their educational endeavor. Another unique idea for "Honor Table" is for there to be a matte portrait, possibly in cap & gown, of the graduate, where the guests could sign there well wishes along the border. After the festivity is over, this portrait can be placed in a nice frame for memories for years to come.

Well, that is almost easier said than done. As premier Event Planning Specialists, we know that first things first, what is your budget? How extravagant are you expecting your invitations to be? How to Host the Perfect Cocktail Party

Envi Consulting & Associates specializes in luxury affairs, therefore we want to share with you some great tips on how to host the perfect cocktail party, where you can mix and mingle with some good friends and take the stress out of the planning process!

After you've chosen the date to hold your cocktail party, these are some fun and easy tips to

1. Pick your budget!

For any celebration, the rest of the details will fall in place after you have decided how much you want to spend. How much food to serve, people to invite, and beverages to have will all depend on your budget.

2. Pick your Guest List!

Whether you want an intimate gather of 8-10 close friends at your home, or a larger affair of about 20-25, you have decide how many people and who you wish to invite.

3. Pick your Drinks!

Cocktail parties are fun and lively! You don't have to have a reason, per se, to throw a cocktail party. Maybe you got a promotion and you want to celebrate with your friends or maybe you want to clear out your bar, whatever the case you have to decide what you're going to sip on! You could serve a signature cocktail or two where you can have them pre-mixed in a nice pitcher labeled so that you can enjoy your party also, or you can put all the ingredients out, grab some drink recipe cards and let your guests make their own cocktails! Just remember that the average cocktail party last anywhere from 3-4 hours and each party goer will have 2-3 drinks on average. So plan accordingly!

4. Pick your menu!

What's a party with a bunch of drinks and no food??? Well, you don't have to be a whiz in the kitchen to create a simple cocktail party spread. Wings, chips, fruit trays, cheese and crackers, and some type of dessert is the SIMPLEST way to go. We are at work!!!!! Brides, brides and more brides! So, last night I was talking with one of our newest clients on her vision and she wants the Preston Bailey Wedding for her budget! Gorgeous! The love of the flowers, the color, the decor....it is going to be magnificent!

The couple is having an intimate affair with 100-115 guests for a late summer/beginning of fall wedding being held on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 5:00 pm, with a Cocktail hour preceding the Reception for our bride to be, Tanyika White (better known as The Future MrsKG).

With the busiest time of the wedding season approaching, each year continues to have different ideas and designs that come to play. Your wedding style is ultimately depicted by you and your Fiance. However, sometimes what is in style for the general public has an influence over what you have your eye on.

Do you enjoy more subtle colors or something more vivid and bold?

How about a chic wedding gown vs. the traditional white lace that your mother and grandmother wore?

Over time, designs and styles reappear and that lace that would have made you cringe 5 years ago, is now popping up more often than ever.

Qualifications:
* Have a passion and love for all aspects of the Event Planning and Entertainment Industries
* Have an educational background in Design, Marketing, Business Administration, Finance, Graphic Arts, or experience equivalent
* Be able to dedicate 15-20 hours a week to complete the individual Internship projects
* Must be a hard worker, organized, have the ability to multi-task, strong communicator, be a team player, as well as be ready and willing to learn all aspects of the business
* Must reside in either the Atlanta, GA or the Washington, DC metropolitan areas

Congratulations to our 2008 Envi Bride of the Year

It has been noted that the majority of Engagements occur during the Thanksgiving - Valentine's Day season. Well, Envi Consulting & Associates decided to take advantage of this opportunity and during the month of February we held an Envi Bride of the Year contest and chose to shower one lucky bride with our Envi Platinum Wedding package! Surprisingly, we had a number of entrants and as difficult as it was to choose just 1 bride, it had to be done!

Our lucky bride to be is LaDonna J. Bradford, who is engaged to Darnell Suggs. They got engaged on January 1, 2008 (on her birthday) in Cairo, Egypt in front of the Sphinx and Pyramids. Here is a video of the special proposal:

We are just as excited to be working with LaDonna and Darnell as they are to have been chosen. So let the planning begin!

We had our first face-to-face consultation with LaDonna and Darnell on Sunday, March 16, 2008 at 4:30 pm at Starbucks Coffee on Howell Mill Rd. in Atlanta, GA.

During this first meeting, LaDonna and Darnell were able to complete 2 questionnaires:

1) A couple style questionnaire which helps the couple and the consultant understand what their planning expectations, the style and theme of their wedding, size, colors, and feel.

2) A priorities questionnaire which helps the couple and consultant understand from the budget items what is most and least important. Therefore, if money becomes an issue, what can we cut back on and what are the must-haves!

The good thing about these exercises are that the bride and groom are able to see if they have the same ideas and are on the same page in the planning process. For example, the bride might want a large guest list, while the groom is thinking somewhere between 75-100 guests. The groom says the style and decor is high on his priorities list, whereas the bride wants impeccable photos! Or in the best cases, the bride and groom have similar tastes and preferences which makes the planning process a wee bit easier, which is the case with LaDonna and Darnell.

Continuing during our conversation, LaDonna and I had previously discussed venues. However, prior to discussing venues we have to discuss budget. LaDonna and Darnell have a budget of $15-20K for their wedding. They have their heart set on the Georgia Aquarium for their wedding ceremony and reception. However, that venue just may be a bit over their budget. Second choice is The Fox Theatre in the Egyptian Ballroom. I also posed a suggestion for them as to if they are open to holding their ceremony outside and the reception indoors. They said yes, however their only concern in inclement weather, which we can always have a Plan B in those cases. So, other venue options are The Eagle's Landing Country Club and The Atlanta Botanical Gardens.

After speaking with the Sales & Marketing Reps from both The Georgia Aquarium and The Fox Theatre this is what I found out:

Pro: The date April 25th, 2009 is booked, but LaDonna & Darnell's first choice of August 9, 2008 is available. A gorgeous ambiance and scenery for a beautiful wedding.

Con: The cost for the Aquarium exceeds LaDonna & Darnell's budget....by a lot! The facility fee is $5250 on a Saturday evening, plus a $25000 minimum for food and beverage.

The Fox Theatre - Egyptian Ballroom

Pros: The cost for holding a wedding and ceremony at this venue is more in line with LaDonna & Darnell's budget. To rent the Grand Salon (for the cermony) and the Egyptian Ballroom (reception) is a total of $7000 for any night of the week. There is also the option for just renting the Egyptian Ballroom for the Ceremony and Reception, and while the room is being converted after the reception, a cocktail hour can be held out on the Terrace.

Cons: None of the dates that LaDonna & Darnell specified are available. Also, all the Saturdays in March and April 2009 are either booked or have holds on them, BUT there is the possibility of challenging those Saturday's that are reserved, but not yet paid for if LaDonna & Darnell want to put a deposit down. Also, there is a $5000 minimum bar charge for Saturday evening events.

After communicating these options to LaDonna, we are still at the drawing board for a venue and most importantly a date! Continue to check back with us as we journal the planning process of LaDonna & Darnell's wedding!
